Europe has traditionally been the world’s most popular tourist destination, benefiting from the revenue, jobs, and increased international understanding that travel offers. According to a survey in 2021, over 700 million tourists are arriving in Europe each year.

Europe is a tourism boss but some hidden gems in Europe are rarely visited. They can give you an unusual destination with a fewer number of visitors. Here is a list of some outstanding underrated countries.

San Marino

San Marino is the 5th smallest country in the world. The world’s oldest republic, it’s historically fascinating. Italy surrounds it. It has beautiful mountains, winding stone streets, romantic restaurants, and a castle.

San Marino is the least visited European country according to UN World Tourism Organization. You can see Mount Titan, Guaita, Cesta Tower, Palazzo Pubblico, De La Fratta, and more. On average, 70,000 tourists visit San Marino per year.

Cyprus

Cyprus is an island nation in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. It is situated to the south of Turkey. In the words of Greek Cypriot Poet Leonidas Malenis,

Cyprus is a “Golden-green leaf thrown into the Sea” and land of “wild weather and volcanoes.”

Cyprus is rich in history & nature. You can explore Paphos, Fig Tree Bay, Tombs of the Kings, St. Hilarion Castle, Konnos Bay, and much more. In 2019, approximately 3.2 Million tourists visited Cyprus. After a period of stagnant growth in tourism in the early 2000s, it is gradually regaining its place — and it should!

Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein is full of scenic beauty, located in the Alps sandwiched between Switzerland and Austria. There are lots of castles for history lovers and slopes for outdoor enthusiasts. Skiing and hiking are the main draws for tourists. So, it will be a wonderful destination in the summers or winters. In 2019, about 100 thousand tourists visited Liechtenstein.

Iceland

Who hasn’t heard of Iceland? Almost everyone but still it is one of the least visited countries in the world. This country is a traveler’s Heaven, comprising dramatic hot springs, geothermal spas, glaciers, geysers, waterfalls, and black sand beaches. In 2019, approximately 2 million international tourists reached Iceland.

People believe that traveling here is expensive, which is why there aren’t many tourists.

Blue Lagoon, Gullfoss, Golden Circle, Black Sand Beach, Reykjavik, and other attractions are available in Iceland. If you are fond of natural beauty, you must pay a visit to Iceland.

Monaco

Monaco is the 2nd smallest country in the world. It is situated on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. It is a filthy rich country so, paying a visit becomes heavy on your pocket. It’s urban, wealthy, and majestic.

It is a fancy tourist destination that offers you Yachts, luxurious hotels, Charming cafés, oceanographic museums, exotic gardens, and art galleries. According to World bank data records, in 2019, approximately 363,000 tourists visited Monaco.

Many attractive and fascinating countries in Europe lose their number of tourists due to the hype of other popular countries. They are fantastic places to plan a trip. All we need is to highlight them. So, people discover the more enchanting beauty present in Europe.
